Artisans on show at ‘unique’ Belfast airport market

Belfast International has unveiled a market area – said to be the first of its kind in any airport – that will showcase local artisan food and drink producers.

Located in the airside area of the departures zone, the Country Market will host 15 producer stalls selling to passengers from Thursdays to Sundays.

Among the companies on show are Abernethy Butter, Lisburn-based Hughes Craft Distillery and preserve-makers Baked in Belfast and Passion Preserved.

Belfast’s Our Daily Bread and rapeseed oil specialists Harnett’s Oils and Broighter Gold will also have stands, as will confectioners Neary Nogs and Eleanor Craig’s Fudge.

There are already plans to increase the number of stalls in the market.

“The unique country market is certainly adding a local flavour to the airport at a key travelling period,” said Belfast International Airport MD Graham Keddie “Around 15,000 people pass through departures every day.

“It gives us a chance to show our customers, both from Northern Ireland and abroad, the excellence of the food available here. Belfast International Airport made a promise to help support and promote local businesses and that is exactly what the market gives us the chance to do.”

The market is being run in conjunction with Ulster Artisans, an umbrella organisation trying to raise local food’s profile with consumers.
