Bergen’s Grieg Hall to host 2018-19 World Cheese Awards
The venue for the World Cheese Awards 2018-19 has been confirmed, with the competition set to make its first appearance in Norway this November.
The awards will form part of a brand new festival, The Norwegian Food Nation, which will be held in the city of Bergen on 2nd and 3rd November.
Organiser the Guild of Fine Food has partnered with HANEN, a group that champions Norwegian rural tourism and food, to stage the cheese-only awards at the Grieg Hall in the city centre on 2nd November.
This year’s awards are set to grow once again, with a record-breaking 3,500 entries expected for its 31st edition.
The judging day will be streamed live on WCA TV as 230 experts from every corner of the globe judge the entries in a single day.
Meanwhile, The Norwegian Food Nation will be shining a spotlight on the country’s food producers and chefs through a series of conference sessions, presentations and tasting tours.
This year’s WCA has been brought to Bergen, after farmhouse blue cheese Kraftkar was named World Champion at the 2016-17 awards in San Sebastián and interest in the country’s cheese surged.
The Guild of Fine Food has been supported by Norway’s Minister of Agriculture and Food, Jon Georg Dale, and the Bergen city government.
