Blacker Hall Farm Opens ‘Drive-Thru’ Shop

Pre-boxed essentials available without having to leave your car
Wakefield based Blacker Hall Farm has opened a ‘Drive-Thru’ Shop for customers shopping for their essentials whilst maintaining social distancing.
The family-run Farm Shop has introduced a number of social distancing measures since the Government rules on social distancing were announced last month. The Garthwaite family is pleased to keep the Farm Shop open and running daily, with a strict customer hand-sanitising policy, among other measures in place, to ensure a safer shopping experience.
The award-winning family business had had to adapt quickly amid the Coronavirus outbreak to satisfy the needs of their loyal customers. They’ve introduced a local delivery priority service for the over 70s, vulnerable and self-isolating and a Click & Collect service. These new shopping solutions have proven extremely popular, with a recent Drive Thru Shop launch over the weekend being a great success. These have all been designed to minimize person-to-person contact.
Edward Garthwaite, Managing Director said:
“We are overwhelmed with the amount of support we have received from the local community. Between deliveries, click & collect and our newly launched Drive Thru, we’re managing to look after about 200 really vulnerable and isolated customers every day.
Our Drive Thru Shop is a quick and easy option to pick-up the essentials, including meat, fish, veg, fruit and salad boxes. It’s open daily with no need for customers to pre-order.
Our Barn Café team have been re-deployed to help people safely receive their food and have been busy helping support the wider team to butcher, bake, take telephone orders, pack orders and stock the shelves.
I am really proud of how the whole team is pulling together and working really hard to help to feed local people. There is a real sense of purpose here at the moment and its fantastic to be part of it.”
The Farm Shop, which includes a Butchers, Bakery, Delicatessen, Food to Go, Wine, Fishmongers, Greengrocery and Gift Shop from just outside Wakefield, has a local supply chain. Over 80% of everything sold from the Calder Grove-based farm is made onsite at the Farm Shop, or home-reared on the family farm.
Although some supermarkets are buckling to balance supply and demand, Blacker Hall Farm is confident that they will be able to keep working closely with their growers and farmers. This should ensure a safe and steady supply of fresh produce enabling them to continue to supply the local community during these exceptional times.
The Farm Shop remains open for those who are fit and well enough to leave their homes, and offers a wide range of local fresh Yorkshire produce, as well as essential store cupboard items.
