British Cheese Awards and Young Cheesemonger competition to go ahead despite Bath & West cancellation
The British Cheese Awards and Young Cheesemonger of the Year competition are still planned to go ahead this year despite the cancellation of its host event the Royal Bath & West Show.
The awards are now scheduled to be staged at the Somerset showground’s annual The Dairy Show, which is to be held on 7th October.
In March, the Royal Bath & West Show announced a postponement to 31st July-2nd August from its original dates at the end of May – given the likely introduction of social distancing measures and lockdown by the government.
The show’s board of trustees has now decided to cancel the event and stage the next show in 2021 on 3rd-5th June.
“There is an obvious synergy between the British Cheese Awards and one of the largest dairy shows in the country, and we are delighted that the event will be able to move to the new dates in the autumn,” said Rupert Cox, Chief Executive of the Royal Bath & West Society. “We will confirm details of entries and judges as soon as we are able.”
Cox added that the board was “hugely disappointed” to have cancelled the main Bath & West Show.
He added: “We hope that our visitors, traders and exhibitors will understand that we have a civic responsibility to act sensibly and in line with government advice.”
The Society will now contact ticketholders with details of what to do next, as well as speaking to all exhibitors, sponsors and competition entrants.
It hopes to have contacted everyone by the end of May and but has asked for patience given the reduced staffing levels.
