Cobbs Farm Co. has announced that it is opening its eighth outlet after six years of development.

Cobbs at Englefield, which is opening on Saturday 9th March, is based at the site of the former Fielders Farm Shop also operated by Cobbs Farm Co at the Englefield Estate in Reading.

It is a series of converted cow-sheds that include a farm shop, delicatessen, butchery counter, florist and café.

“This investment will help to breathe new life into the current redundant farm buildings, not only creating new jobs directly, but with a bigger farm shop we can work with even more local suppliers, farmers and growers,” said chief executive of Cobbs Farm Co, Tom Newey.

Newey added that Cobbs has always tried to source as much of its produce locally and will continue to do so. The new outlet aims to showcase the very best in food from local producers, with many sampling their products during the formal opening.

“This is a really exciting time for Cobbs and we’re really pleased with the progress on site so far,” Newey added. “This redevelopment has been more than six years in the planning, so to finally see the work underway is fantastic.”

The new site is the eighth branch to open under the Cobbs Farm Co. which first began in 2007 and now includes seven farm shops across Berkshire, Hampshire, Shropshire and Wiltshire, including the 55-acre flagship site, Cobbs Farm Shop on the Berkshire/Wiltshire border.

The new 7,000sqft farm shop and café has managed to retain many of the cow-sheds original features, leaving antique beams on show and re-using as many materials as possible, including original roof tiles and stall timbers to finish the detail of the shop and café.

As well as an extended retail and hospitality offering, Cobbs at Englefield will have improved access for visitors with disabilities and will link up to a cycleway to encourage sustainable travel.

The estates director for Englefield Estate Edward Crookes said: “We’re extremely proud to be working in partnership with Cobbs Farm Co. to help revitalise the site. The new farm shop and café will be a huge asset to the local community, bringing a range of fresh local produce to residents and offering space to socialise. We’re excited to be part of this project and are looking forward to unveiling the completed project.”
