Distributor launches drop shipment facility for retailers
Fine food distributor The Gorgeous Food Company has launched a new drop shipment service for independent retailers looking to open or expand their e-commerce.
The Gloucestershire-based distributor, which has been supplying independent food stores over the last five years, has introduced the service under a new website called The Dropship Deli.
The company decided to develop the website after receiving enquiries from existing retailers about a drop shipping facility.
“No one appears to offer this within the specialist food sector,” said managing director Grahame Day. “Coupled with the reported continual decline in footfall on the high street, it is more important than ever for retailers to have an online presence.”
Day added that the service will allow new and existing retailers to open or enhance their e-commerce with over 1500 new products without the need for initial stock outlays.
“We’re continually hearing that storage is an issue for many retailers, so drop shipping has to be the perfect solution. No costly stock purchases, no additional warehouse costs and no need for additional staff to pick and pack the orders.”
Customer orders and delivery details are sent to the distributor who will ship the goods directly to the customer.
“We even dispatch the orders in unbranded packaging so the end customer doesn’t even need to know that the order hasn’t been sent direct from the retailer,” he added.
The website is already live and accepting new applicants, but is officially launching at the Autumn Fair trade show at the NEC this month.
