Edinburgh Gin bought by Ian Macleod Distillers
Ian Macleod Distillers has acquired Spencerfield Spirit Company, and its flagship brand Edinburgh Gin, for an undisclosed sum.
The deal sees Ian Macleod, which was already the exclusive UK distributor for Spencerfield’s Edinburgh Gin and whisky ranges, take ownership of the company with plans afoot for further investment across the distillery’s brands.
Production will remain at Spencerfield’s two distilleries, in Edinburgh and Leith, while all jobs have been secured. Alex and Jane Nicol, who founded Spencerfield in 2010, will remain in the business to assist during a transition period.
Established in Scotland in 1933, Ian Macleod Distillers is an independent, family-owned distillers, blenders and bottler. Its brand portfolio includes Glengoyne, Tamdhu, Smokehead and Isle of Skye whiskies as well as Atlantico Rum.
“Ian Macleod Distillers is the perfect home for Edinburgh Gin’s future,” said Alex Nicol. “The company shares our family values and artisanal approach to production and we look forward to working with them to maximise its potential”.
