Godminster Organic Cheddar is nation’s favourite at BOOM Awards 2019
The winners of this year’s Best of Organic Market (BOOM) awards have been revealed with Godminster’s Vintage Organic Cheddar crowned The Nation’s Favourite Organic Product.
The ceremony, held on Wednesday 26thJune at Oval Space in London and run by Soil Association Certification, saw organic brands, products and people crowned as the best in their field and attended by more than 300 guests from major retailers, organic brands and industry figures.
Godminster’s Vintage Organic Cheddar also took home the Best of Organic Dairy award. Pip Organic was awarded the Best New Organic Product award for its rainbow fruity lollies with cheeky veg, while Tideford Organics’ lentil & spinach dhal soup was named Best of Organic Chilled & Frozen.
“The organic market is booming with more people than ever looking for, talking about and choosing organic,” said business development director for the Soil Association Certification Clare McDermott. “Small steps can make a big difference in supporting our environment, and by choosing organic we are all playing our part in supporting a more sustainable food system.”
Prizes were awarded to food & drink products judged on their taste and quality by expert panels from the industry. The exception was The Nation’s Favourite Organic Product category which was voted for by the public following a tight contest that saw over 300 products nominated and 4,000 votes cast.
Non-food and drink awards were also given on the night with social enterprise the Locavore Community Interest Company winning Best of Organic Independent Retailers and Best of Organic Innovation going to The Organic Pantry – a wholesale business, box scheme and farm shop with an online shop for organic fruit, vegetables and meat.
“Organic businesses have always been innovators and pioneers,” added McDermott, “and I’m delighted that we’ve been able to celebrate some of the very best through the BOOM awards, which get bigger and better each year.”
