Government launches free food safety tool for small producers

chutney makingThe Government has offered a helping hand to small food producers with the launch of a free online tool for developing food safety systems.

MyHACCP provides a step-by-step guide to drawing up a Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point plan, which is seen as a cornerstone of food safety practice.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said that currently many producers are employing consultants to help them through the process but this new service will offer an entirely free-to-use alternative.

The new tool also provides users with downloadable templates, such as monitoring record sheets, and allows them to create a PDF of their HACCP study and HACCP-based controls, which can be updated if new products are added

“Many food businesses we’ve spoken to have asked for more support to help them ensure and demonstrate that they have HACCP under control,” said FSA head of local delivery John Barnes. “This tool will help businesses to develop their system and embed it into their everyday practices.”
