Great Taste unveils Top 50 Foods
Unveiled as Great Taste is set to reach its climax next week, this year’s Top 50 Foods have been determined following a rigourous judging process and more than 12,300 entries into the awards in 2017.
Narrowed down from the 165 products that won 3-star awards, this year’s list is an eclectic mix of traditional preserves, cheeses and cuts of meat from the British Isles as well as honey, tea and confectionery from further afield.
The makers of these top products will now be awaiting the Great Taste Golden Fork Award Dinner – held on Monday 4th September at the InterContinental London Park Lane Hotel – to find out which products will take home the top awards for their region and, ultimately, this year’s Supreme Champion.
A record-breaking 12,366 different products were entered into Great Taste in 2017 and these products were blind-tasted during numerous judging sessions at the Dorest HQ of organiser the Guild of Fine Food, as well as its new premises in London and at Llandrillo College in North Wales.
In total, more than 500 judges – including food critics, chefs, restaurateurs, cooks, producers and journalists – took part in the judging process this year.
Just 165 entrants were awarded the top 3-star award, while 1,011 picked up 2-stars and 3,171 products won 1-stars.
