Hillfarm Oils releases first batch of new honey
Hillfarm Oils has diversified with a new honey range, which is produced from hives on its Suffolk arable farm.
The initial batch of Hillfarm Honey, which is available in set and runny varieties (454g, RRP £4.75), amounts to just 800 jars that will be sold locally and available online.
However, the cold-pressed rapeseed oil producer, which works with beekeepers to place hives around its Suffolk farm, is looking to boost honey production during 2016.
Hillfarm Oil founder Sam Fairs said the move had stemmed from customers’ enquiries about how the arable farm worked with the environment.
“It’s important to demonstrate our commitment to caring for the bees and other beneficial insects on our farm,” he said. “This clearly demonstrates that, although we are a commercial and modern farming business, we do work hard to look after the environment in which we live and work.”
“Bees and other beneficial insects thrive on our farm and without them our crops would be nowhere as good as they are. They have lots to feed on in the countryside around us including the woodland, clover-rich grasslands, the borage crops we grow and, of course, the rapeseed.”
The farm produced its first culinary cold-pressed oils in 2004 and now produces a range of rapeseed oil mayonnaises, hand wash and lotions.
