Major food and drink expo postponed until 2022 due to COVID

Major food and drink expo postponed until 2022 due to COVID

In light of the continued battle against coronavirus in the UK, the Montgomery Group has postponed the 2021 International Food and Drink Event (IFE) until 2022.

The expo, due to be held from 22ndto 24thMarch 2021 at the ExCel in London, will now be held on 28thFebruary 2022.

Nicola Woods, event manager at Montgomery Group, said: “Despite the introduction of the ‘All Secure Standard’ risk-assessment based framework for COVID-19, due to the lack of guidance and clarity from government on when business events can restart, we have decided that the best option is to postpone.”

The “difficult” decision was taken by the show’s organisers following consultation with industry stakeholders and key partners.

Despite the cancellation, the Montgomery Group are reportedly investigating ways in which the show’s purpose can be replicated in a virtual event.

“While we are immensely disappointed that we can’t meet face-to-face in March,” said Woods, “we are currently investigating numerous ways in which we can continue to support and connect with the food and drink industry throughout 2021 and beyond, and will be making an announcement around this very soon.”

With the British Medical Journal reportingthat the current coronavirus outbreak could last until spring 2021 and see 7.9 million hospitalised in the UK, the trend seen in 2020 of postponements and virtual trade events looks set to continue.

Scotland’s Speciality Food Show, scheduled for 24 – 26 January 2021, is one such event that has already committed to being online only.
