Neal’s Yard Dairy to open new Islington cheese shop
Cheesemonger Neal’s Yard Dairy is set to open a new permanent shop for the first time in over two decades after securing premises in Islington, North London.
The site, in a more residential area of the Capital, represents a departure for Neal’s Yard, which has shops in Covent Garden and Borough Market – the last store it opened, in 1998.
The new premises, on the junction of Cross Street and Essex Road, will stock Neal’s Yard’s usual range of British and Irish cheeses, as well as dairy products and other essentials like eggs and bread.
The shop will open temporarily for Christmas trading and then close for refurbishment before opening permanently in the New Year.
“When the opportunity came to open our next shop, it seemed like a natural place to do it,” said director Jason Hinds, who is a regular customer at the neighbouring butcher James Elliott and Steve Hatt Fishmongers.
“It’ll be a delight to receive members of the community in our new shop – locals that I may well have queued up with to buy meat and fish over the years.”
Hinds said the rationale behind opening this shop was the changes in shopping habits brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, chiefly people commuting less and shopping more locally.
