Orkney Cheddar gains EU protected status

Orkney Scottish Island Cheddar is the latest UK food to gain protected status under the EU Protected Food Names (PFN) scheme.

The cheese has been granted Protected Geographical Indication, which means that it is legally protected against imitators throughout the EU and can use an EU logo of authenticity on packaging.

It is the the 57th UK product to gain protection under the scheme since 1992 and joins fellow Scottish products including Arbroath Smokies, Stornoway Black Pudding and Scotch Whisky.
