Paxton puts down roots in Chelsea’s Cale Street

Historic cheesemonger Paxton & Whitfield has replaced its Chelsea pop-up with a new permanent shop a few yards down the road.

The 22 Cale Street shop, which runs parallel to the Kings Road on Chelsea Green, opened on October 16.

It is half the size of Paxton‘s flagship Jermyn Street store and will stock 90-100 cheeses. Around 60% will come from the UK, with 20% from France and the rest from elsewhere on the Continent.

A spokesman said the pop-up, which opened last November, had seen great support from consumers and enabled it to get a feel for the area and start building a trade clientele too.

“As we learn more about our customers and trade customers, we can tailor the selection,” he said.

The company has three other stores – Jermyn Street (which also supplies more than 200 restaurants in the capital), Bath and Stratford upon Avon – and a main warehouse in Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire.
