Pistachio & Pickle Dairy hires cheesemonger with “serious pedigree”
A former deli manager at Jody Scheckter’s Laverstoke Park farm shop has joined North London artisan cheese shop Pistachio & Pickle Dairy.
Jennifer Pettit, who was a runner-up in the 2013 Le Gruyère AOP Cheesemonger of the Year competition, will manage the Camden Passage-based shop, which opened 18 months ago as an offshoot of the Pistachio & Pickle Deli in Islington.
Pettit was previously a manager at the Cheddar Deli in Ealing and general manager at The Teddington Cheese.
Pistachio & Pickle’s co-founder Matt Kelly, said Pettit had “serious pedigree” and would help drive the business forward to put Pistachio & Pickle Dairy on the map, both locally and nationally.
“She joins us at an exciting time, with the sales of artisan cheeses at an all-time high,” he said. “She is uniquely positioned to fly the flag for our home-grown, British cheese, of which we are so proud. “
The cheese shop is planning to launch online sales, including a monthly cheese box, cheese hampers, and off-the-peg wedding ’cake’ cheeses to supplement its bespoke service, which Kelly said was a growing part of the business. It is also keen to work with local businesses and develop its wholesale supply to local restaurants, and is set to run a programme of tastings and meet the producer events.
“This is a really exciting opportunity for me to be getting in early on this new but growing cheese venture,” said Pettit. “We intend to splash Pistachio & Pickle Dairy all over town.”
