Premium foods in convenience sector predicted to grow in 2017
Fine food distributor Cotswold Fayre predicts the convenience sector will continue to premiumise its offering in 2017 following a sales increase of more than 40% in this area.
Paul Hargreaves, chief executive at Cotswold Fayre said the company’s convenience orders have almost doubled in volume over the past two years and have recently introduced 35 new suppliers and more than 250 new products to its range.
Research carried out in 2016 also revealed two thirds of convenience retailers were seeking local products and that a quarter of them expecting an increase in artisan products.
Paul Hargreaves commented: “Consumers are seeking out new products and brands from their local stores – and importantly, they are happy to spend more on quality produce,” said Hargreaves. “In order to stay relevant, stores must continue to diversify and react to consumer demand for premium, speciality products.”
