Nigel Barden Heritage Award presented to Ty Tanglwyst Dairy

The Great Taste awards celebrates the very best in food and drink. The Great Taste Nigel Barden Heritage Award has been presented to Ty Tanglwyst Dairy of Pyle near Bridgend in Wales, for its Great Taste 3-star award-winning Ty Tanglwyst Dairy Salted Butter. The award, presented each year to a producer who uses historic production methods, rare breeds or heritage varieties of fruit and vegetables, was created to encourage and reward food producers who celebrate and uphold traditional flavours and characteristics.

The award was presented to father and son, John and Rhys Lougher of the family-run Ty Tanglwyst Dairy in front of over 300 guests from the world of fine food at the Great Taste Golden Forks Dinner, held on Monday 7 September at The Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington.

Nigel Barden, broadcaster and chef, commented: “The Lougher family has been dairy farming for four generations, which makes Ty Tanglwyst Dairy a truly worthy recipient of this award for its salted butter. The milk was once delivered to Aberystwyth by horse and cart in the 1920s and today it leaves in the farm’s own vehicles after being pasteurised and bottled on the farm. A lot of thought has gone into the production of this salted butter, a marvellously rich, creamy mouthful is the result with just the right amount of salt underpinning it. A truly artisan offering, reflecting its great heritage. Butter is back!”
