Calling all cheesemakers…

World Cheese Awards 2022 is open for entries

From 25 July until 20 September, the Guild of Fine Food will be accepting entries for the 34th World Cheese Awards 2022.

The World Cheese Awards is the largest annual cheese-only event, receiving over 4,000 entries from cheesemakers and producers from across the world. Last year’s event brought together cheeses representing 45 different nations from a staggering six continents.

The Guild of Fine Food announced today that from 25 July until 20 September, it will be accepting entries for the competition, which will be attended by 250 cheese experts from more than 35 different countries.

This year the event will be held at the International Convention Centre Wales  on Wednesday 2 November, supported by the Welsh Government. Open to trade visitors only, the Guild of Fine Food will also be organising a World Cheese Awards Market around the judging arena at the ICCW on 2 November.

John Farrand, managing director of the Guild of Fine Food, organisers of the competition, says:

“The World Cheese Awards is a truly global event, bringing together cheesemakers, retailers, buyers, consumers, journalists and food commentators. Together, we celebrate excellence in cheesemaking and recognise the best cheeses from across the globe. To be staged in Wales, a fantastic food and drink destination, is really special. We thank the Welsh Government for their continued support in hosting this important competition.

“To our World Cheese Awards community, we’re excited to see the innovation and creativity that has come out of the last twelve months. We look forward to working with you all to deliver this exceptional celebration of cheese from around the world.”

Minister for Rural Affairs and North Wales, and Trefnydd, Lesley Griffiths said:

“We are delighted to be hosting the World Cheese Awards 2022. It’s a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase what an incredible and varied food and drink culture and heritage we have here in Wales. We look forward to welcoming the global cheese and dairy community to Wales and hope to see some of our own cheesemakers take part.”

Enter cheese with ease

Cheesemakers wanting to compete should head to www.gff.co.uk/wca to enter. Global consolidation points have been organised by the Guild of Fine Food, to receive entries from cheesemakers and transport them to the judging venue, under controlled conditions. This makes it easier for entrants to send their cheeses internationally, as the consolidation points will assist with export paperwork. Our consolidation points are totally unique to the World Cheese Awards and no other competition has such a far-reaching network offering safe and subsidised delivery for entries.

World Cheese Awards, organised by the Guild of Fine Food

Cheesemakers are competing for Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Super Gold awards, plus both country and cheese specific trophies. The Super Gold cheeses then go forward to be judged by an International Super Jury, who will find a World Champion Cheese, the highest accolade of all. This dramatic finale will be broadcasted live on WCA TV, with cheese lovers tuning in from around the globe.

The World Cheese Awards are organised by the Guild of Find Food. An organisation which exists to support, protect, represent, and raise awareness of all good independent food and drink businesses, at a local, national, international, and governmental level: building a supportive and informative community of producers, retailers and food lovers who protect standards and champion good food & drink.
