Diary Date: World Cheese Awards 2014 at BBC Good Food Show London
The 2014 World Cheese Awards, the largest gathering of cheeses under one roof, takes place at BBC Good Food Show, London Olympia on 14 – 16 November.
It is anticipated that 3,000 different entries will be judged by 250 experts from around the world, making this the largest and most comprehensive cheese competition offering a chance for visitors to see and taste the finest examples of cheese making skill in the world.
“There are many regional cheese award competitions but the World Cheese Awards is all about cheese, not yoghurt, cream or milk, just cheese in all its magnificence,” explained John Farrand, MD of the Guild of Fine Food, organisers of the World Cheese Awards.
“This year in London we’re aiming for the UK’s biggest and most cosmopolitan cheese festival with almost 30,000 visitors tasting their way around our collective cheese board.
Once our expert judges have completed their deliberations, visitors to the show will be able to enter a 1,000 square metre area and travel amongst the finest cheeses in the world”.
There will be cheese tours with BBC Radio 2’s Nigel Barden where visitors will be able to learn about cheese from across Europe and then get nuggets of information from Charlie Turnbull and John Farrand – both experts in matching cheese with beer, cider and wine.
The main World Cheese Awards judging will take place on Friday, 14 November.
