UK Prosecco sales grow by 25% shadowing those of Champagne
UK Prosecco sales outstrip those of Champagne by almost double according to IRI, a data producer for FMCG manufacturers and retailers.
The research also says that Prosecco is showing significantly faster sales growth across the UK and Europe with a 23% rise in the volume of Prosecco sold.
Tim Eales, Strategic Insight Director at IRI said: “Whilst Champagne growth appears to be slowing significantly across most of Europe, although up in other parts of the world, Prosecco continues to grow and grow in almost every market apart from the Netherlands. Even Cava, which seemed to fall out of favour with the rise in popularity of Prosecco a few years ago, has seen value and volume increases in most countries this year.”
IRI’s data shows that the UK sparkling wine market, which includes, Champagne, Prosecco and Cava along with other sparkling wines, is worth over €1billion. Champagne sales market is worth around €333million while Prosecco sales of around €600million – three quarters of all European sales.
