Great Taste case study
Peter Morgan, Cheesemaker and founder of the Dorset-based Book and Bucket Cheese Company, which was set up in 2019 has been entering his produce into Great Taste since 2020. Having seen the Great Taste star logo on a shop self, five years ago, he researched how to apply and hasn’t looked back. Peter and his team of eight are entering five cheeses into Great Taste 2025, the same number that they enter every year.
He says: “It is always a huge thrill to receive a Great Taste award! The stars are a mark that our customers recognise and often look out for as a guarantee of quality and flavour.
“It is so rewarding to have confirmation that the standard of our products is as good as we think it is, and to be able to communicate that to our customers. We have already seen Great Taste impact our business, through increased sales and new opportunities, so it is always with this in mind that we keep entering our products to be judged.
“We have ten cheeses that have achieved a star accreditation, that’s more than half our range. It really helps our cheeses to stand out on the shelf and it opens the door to potential new suppliers too. Obtaining a 2-star with one of our earliest entries, Shakespeare, really helped us to grow the business, especially as it was during the pandemic. In 2024 our Cranbourne Blue received a 3-star award and within a few short months, that already saw us begin to work with new suppliers.
“We really believe that our products are special, and it was absolutely fantastic to see that belief validated in Great Taste 2024 with the highest possible accolade for our blue cheese. These awards are a great way for us to get expert feedback which helps us to gauge how our products compare to others in our field. They are also the best way to get real recognition for our products that we have put so much hard work into.”
