Golden Fork case study (Sustainability)

Fordhall Farm entered Great Taste for the first time in 2025 and achieved a 1-star for their Pork, Bacon and Cranberry Sausage Roll and a 3-star for their Gloucester Old Spot Pork Shoulder. With their 3-star award, Fordhall Farm was eligible to apply for the Great Taste 2025 Golden Fork for Sustainability, which they went on to win.

Ben Hollins, shop and butchery director at Fordhall Farm says: “We are undoubtedly quite unique, because we are a farm as well as being a farm shop. We are passionate about animal welfare and traceability, our native breeds are all pasture fed, outdoor reared and slow grown with freedom to roam and wallow as nature intended. The methods we use are not easy by any stretch of the imagination, but they do create better tasting produce. Our meat is slaughtered locally to help reduce stress, and then the whole carcass is returned to be butchered on site. The same love, care and dedication goes into all our other produce, and our customer service.

the awards are well recognised by the general public and products displaying the famous logo are held in the best regard.

We entered Great Taste in the hope of gaining external acknowledgement and recognition, we know that the awards are well recognised by the general public and products displaying the famous logo are held in the best regard. We know that our customers love what we do and how we do it, but to have that confirmation from the judging panel is a real boost to everyone on the team.

our 3-star logo and our Golden Fork is a huge help and credible endorsement.

We’re not always the best at shouting about what we do, so to be able to show our 3-star logo and our Golden Fork is a huge help and credible endorsement. It’s such a wonderful thing for me as a team leader to be able to shine a light on the hard work on the good things my people are doing every single day”.
